Drinkware Care Guide

Caring for Your Drinkware

Your HipFlaskPlus drinkware is built to last. With the right care, your flask, tumbler, or bottle will keep performing at its best — and your laser engraving will stay crisp for years to come. Please read the guidance below, as care requirements vary by product and material.

Hand Washing vs. Dishwasher Use

We recommend hand washing for all laser-engraved stainless steel products. While stainless steel is inherently durable, repeated dishwasher cycles can affect the finish of engraved surfaces over time, and high-heat drying cycles may degrade seals and rubber gaskets on some models.

  • Hand washing (recommended): Use warm water and a small amount of mild dish soap. A bottle brush works well for reaching the interior. Rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry with the cap off.
  • Dishwasher use: Some products in our range may be labeled dishwasher-safe on their packaging. If your specific item is dishwasher-safe, place it on the top rack only and use a low-heat or air-dry setting. When in doubt, hand wash to be safe.

Note: We do not guarantee that dishwasher use will not affect the appearance of laser-engraved surfaces over time. For engraved items, hand washing is always the safer choice.

Caring for Laser-Engraved Surfaces

Laser engraving removes the outer surface of the metal to reveal a permanent design — there is no ink, paint, or coating that can peel. However, you can still protect the quality of the engraving:

  • Avoid abrasive scrubbing pads, steel wool, or harsh scouring agents on engraved areas.
  • Do not soak engraved items for extended periods.
  • Mild soap and a soft cloth or sponge are sufficient for everyday cleaning.
  • Dry engraved surfaces promptly to minimise water spots, especially in hard-water areas.

Cap and Seal Cleaning

Caps, lids, and seals are the most maintenance-intensive parts of your drinkware. Residue can build up quickly, especially with flavoured beverages or oils.

  • Disassemble caps and lids fully before washing — remove rubber O-rings and gaskets where possible.
  • Hand wash all cap components in warm soapy water. Use a small brush or pipe cleaner to clean threads and grooves.
  • Rinse gaskets and seals thoroughly and allow them to air dry completely before reassembling.
  • Inspect rubber seals regularly for cracking or deformation. Damaged seals can affect the leak-proof performance of your flask.
  • Cap components may not be dishwasher-safe even if the main vessel is. Check product-specific documentation for your item.

Stain Removal

Stubborn stains — commonly from coffee, tea, or fruit juices — can be removed with a few safe methods:

  • Baking soda paste: Mix baking soda with a small amount of warm water to form a paste. Apply to the interior, let sit for 15–30 minutes, then scrub gently with a bottle brush and rinse thoroughly.
  • White vinegar soak: Fill the vessel with equal parts white vinegar and warm water. Let soak for 30 minutes to 1 hour, then rinse well. This also helps with mineral deposits.
  • Denture tablets or specialist bottle-cleaning tablets: Drop one tablet into warm water inside the flask. Follow the tablet manufacturer's instructions. Rinse thoroughly afterwards.
  • Avoid bleach or chlorine-based cleaners, as these can damage stainless steel finishes and seals.

Storage

  • Store your flask or bottle with the cap off or loosely placed to allow air circulation and prevent odours.
  • Ensure the interior is completely dry before storing to prevent mould or mildew growth.
  • Store in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight, which can affect exterior coatings on painted or powder-coated models.
  • Keep flasks away from sharp objects that could scratch or dent the engraved exterior.

A Note on Material-Specific Limits

Not all drinkware in our range is identical. Specific care instructions may vary by product — please refer to any documentation included with your item or contact us if you have questions about a particular product.

  • Stainless steel flasks: Highly durable. Not suitable for carbonated beverages or acidic liquids stored for extended periods.
  • Powder-coated or painted exteriors: Hand wash only. Dishwashers and abrasive cleaners can chip or fade exterior coatings.
  • Products with plastic or acrylic components: Avoid high heat. Hand wash recommended.
